Go to any pharmacy or vitamins and supplements retailer in South Africa, and you’ll likely find kanna extract (also known as Sceletium tortuosum). It’s a medicinal plant that many claim can reduce anxiety and boost your mood (and it’s also used ceremonially by the Indigenous Khoisan peoples). Some more benefits: It’s legal and non-addictive. So of course kanna has started gaining traction Stateside ... But could this really be the plant kingdom’s answer to Zoloft? Contributor Laura Neilson finds out.

Arielle Avila and Bella Druckman surveyed a bunch of cool teens about the jeans they love most. Skinny jeans are out. Baggy, low-rise jeans are unequivocally popular. “Honestly, the baggiest I can get the better,” says 18-year-old Gabriel Stevens from Michigan. It’s also refreshing to hear they’re still shopping at longstanding mall brands like Aereopostale, Abercrombie (a lot better than it was when I shopped there), Hollister, PacSun, and Garage (if you spent any time in Canada in the early ’00s).
